Last night Nour, Elizabeth and I went in to Manhattan spontaneously.
Nour had the brilliant idea of going to eat at the life cafe where a scene in the Broadway hit RENT took place! We took the subway to Union square and walked to alphabet city from there.
On the way we stopped at Strands famous bookstore! They have 18 miles of books.
All the levels of books!
Walking to Alphabet city during sunset.
LIFE CAFE!
And Katie G, a friend from home, met us there!
Elizabeth.
Nour and I!
Katie and I outside the Life Cafe!
After the Life Cafe we got ice cream! Katie took the R home and we went to midtown. We met some of Nour's friends at the apple store and walked up and down 5th Ave trying to find somewhere to get tea.
Nour: "It smells like pickeled ginger."
Me: "Oh that guy is mopping the sidewalk..."
(They mop the sidewalk here?)
Some nice jazz in the subway on the way home.
Finally we gave up and got on the Metro North to head back to Bronxville where a shuttle picked us up from the train station. We came back to our house and drank tea.
Ah, the Strand! That's where I got the Encyclopedia Britannica that's in the hall, and lots of other stuff. Practically everything is there, after all. I'm glad you found it. And I'm happy Katie made it into town too. Love, Dad
ReplyDeleteAbby, I just saw an episode of Oprah that talked about eating frozen hot chocolate at the Serendipity Restaurant in Manhattan- I think they said around 60th? Next time you are there see if you can find it- I want to go there!! I love you mom!
