Snow day again today.

Skyping with Emma. Missing home.

Two weeks until spring break. I am counting down the days.

I need to Oklahoma sunshine.

Maddy, Erin and I have decided last night that we are getting hamsters in our apartment next year...

Their names will be Snookie and Gweedo. They are going to be straight gangster.

*rap coming soon. courtesy of emma.

Last night I spent the night with the Harshaw's in NJ. It is truly a blessing to have such great people so close by. Alex and I watched movies, talked, and went to eat at Wawa in the morning.

We ate lunch at an Italian place in Bronxville.

Thank you Harshaws for a great home away from home... Complete with bags of snacks to take back to SLC. I am so thankful.

The song whose chorus chants "stiletto pumps in the club" may be catchy but I find myself vowing to never wear high heels again after last night.

Last night we left Sarah Lawrence at 1020 and found our selves on the way to Greenpoint Brooklyn to go to Club Europa for my birthday festivities.

Maddy and I getting ready.

The whole gang waiting for the shuttle in Hill House.

The club was definitely a great experience we all had SO much fun and probably will be returning.

After the club we had a different kind of adventure.. I HAD to take my shoes off because they were killing my feet, I was constantly hearing the voice of my Godmother Penny saying "Abby, never wear heels! They are an invention by men to keep women slow." So I ended up not wearing shoes in the streets of New York City all the way to Grand Central, so wishing I had taken my Godmother's advice.

BUT we had purposely missed the last train because we were having fun at the club. So the key was to find somewhere to wait until the first train at 540 in the morning. We ended up going to this weird grocery store near Grand Central. Their seating area was closed but the nice man opened it up for us since we were waiting for the train but he made us keep the lights off so no other costumers would go up there so it made us extra tired and very conspicuous.

After we caught the train back and almost fell asleep and missed our stop half of us getting of in Yonkers and half in Bronxville, depending on what side of the campus we live on, I left the people I was with and sprinted all two miles back to campus up hill. My feet were all ready numb and so screwed up so I figured why not run in snow? It was so painful. I have probably never been in worse pain... But I made it home, in bed by 7am.

And I will never forget being barefoot in Brooklyn.

Today was my 19th birthday, just another day come and gone. Just another day celebrated for the life that Christ has given me. Today was my first birthday away from home and everything that I know. I must say though, I have managed to find my place here at Sarah Lawrence and with it some beautiful and caring friends. Jesus truly is Lord. He keeps his promises to never leave me. I just need to make sure and not get too comfortable. To be on a mission here, even when I have people I can relax with. I need to shine Christ’s light not only to the lost, which come in overwhelming numbers here, but to those who have His truth in their lives, to my friends and loved ones.

This morning I woke up to find flowers and a bottle of Champaign on my windowsill from my two best friends at Sarah Lawrence, Maddy and Erin. They have truly worked to make my birthday here as great as ever. I am so thankful for them and everything they do for me. They make this place home for me. They are the reason I stay here so happily, the reason I find unconditional love on this barren campus.

At lunch I found that my parents had ordered me a cake. Red velvet with great icing. I am so thankful for my parents. I could not have asked for two better people to guide me these past 19 years and to teach me everything they have learned about life. It is my first birthday without them. But somehow I don’t feel separated at all. Maybe in a tangible sense but otherwise I know they are here. They are inside me guiding me; I can feel their love for me even thousands of miles away.

Today was a great day, just another day, but still a great one. I am a year older but no one ever feels the age creeping up on them as so many say they will. Just another day that signifies the changing of a number in which I identify. But still. I can’t help but thank God for what He has shown me and given me. And as the numbers change I pray I grow wiser and closer to Him. So 19 it is, for now.

My Godmother, Adrienne, sent me this picture of us on the day I was born.

My Lord,

You have mercifully exchanged Jesus for me. I  now walk in His identity, His power, His will, His resurrection and life. May I live worthy of that calling, praying His prayers, seeking His possessions, desiring His desires, dreaming His dreams, doing His work. Im a fellow hier of Your Kingdom, and I dont want to waste the privilege. Please give me Your wisdom. Please plant Your desires deep within me. Let me see Jesus' miracles, His power, His compassion. Yes, I know I will also feel His cross. But I gladly will, if I can only experience His life. Please let me live as Jesus in this world. Please.

Amen.

Emma's birthday gift to me.

A painting of me and this little boy I fell in love with while in Haiti.

This present couldn't be more perfect. It is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever done for me. And is a great reminder of what is important in these times. Thank you Emma.

God bless Haiti.

This weekend so far there have been two different kinds of concerts for Haiti to raise money.

Here are some pictures and video of a great band at one of the concerts.

Please let me know if you can't see this video!

Here are some pictures from our snow adventures yesterday!

I have never seen more snow in my life!!

Out the front window when I woke up!

Maddy

The non-existent street.

I thought this snow man was big... Just you wait.

It took a lot of man power to get the balls on top of each other. We considered making a laying down snow man.

Putting the face on!

Off to Bates to get some eyes!

Nessie's face!

Our 7 foot tall greek goddess, Nessie.

Then we made snow ice cream and watched the Notebook.
