My all time favorite movie is easily
The Young Victoria. I saw this movie when
I lived in New York City, when my parents
came to visit me. I bought it this year and cannot stop
watching it. Here is a great little scene for you...
One of many great scenes.

I went to such a great little park wedding
for some friends of mine the other day.

I was overwhelmed with how amazing the wedding
ended up being and how many great people I got to meet!

Off to Africa in less than two weeks and I am beyond excited.
My team is so amazing and expectant of God moving!

And of course, congrats to my amazing friend
Kat and her new husband, Brandon!

On my last day in Norman I hung out with some amazing friends.
We made home made ice cream, went thrift shopping, and drank
Chai and Beatnix cafe. A great last day.

The first picture is present because we thought it was hilarious and
gross to have cashews in one of these dirty vending things...
just in case you might want to munch on some cashews while
perusing the store...

Some of my best friends and I had an amazing summer evening
due to great company and warm tea.

We sat around a beautiful table and ate delicious homemade food.
As the sun sank below the endless fields we talked of things
past and things future. Middle school teachers, crushes, first kisses,
majors, graduation, life, and justice. I am filled with gratitude for these
amazing girls who have come into my life and have stayed and made
their way into my heart, each of them I hold dear.

I will always look back on these southern summers
with love and gratefulness.

Thank you for being such a great dad.
I am appreciative of how you model love
and devotion in marriage to my mom.
I once heard it said that the best thing a father can
do for his daughter is to love her mother
and set an example of how a man should love his wife.
I know that you have done this for me.
Your devotion to our entire family is evident.

Thank you for always believing in me, encouraging
me, and loving me through every choice I have made.

I pray that you see how much I love you in my
every action.

On our last afternoon in Germany we decided
to hike up to another castle.

There were countless beautiful things.
The light coming through the trees.
The seclusion of the hike in the beautiful forest.

I kept thinking that we would end up in another
time. I pictured things going
a bit like A Kid in King Author's Court
(a great 90's movie).

Now we are home soaking up this
short time I have in the States before my
departure back to Canada and then off to Africa!

Today is only half over and yet I am so tired and
have done so much. We went to a flea market this morning
where I scored some German goods.

Beautiful thing one spotted.

1. A German lady so old and so eager to sell me all of her,
for lack of a better word, junk. I bought a small vase from her,
mustard yellow. She was kind in her old age. I always just
think old people are pretty beautiful. Where has their life taken them?
What trials have been refining fire along the way?

Then my Papa and I proceeded to bike to another city,
then up a hill, then to a castle.

2. In the forest on the way up I found magical faces
crafted out of old tree stumps that someone decided to turn into
works of art. Majestic in nature and in location.
Encouraging as I climbed the hill with my bike.

3. Inside the castle there were old stone stairs, historic, dating
from the 1200s. These stairs had been walked so many times
and by so many people that one could see, if looking closely enough,
that the middle of the stairs sort of indented ever so delicately
from hundreds of years of footprints.

4. In leaving the castle we had to bike down the hill (I think
that the word "hill" kind of downplays the steepness that was
present). We rode on a tiny path just big enough for one person to
walk. This path took us through an amazing forest. Every now
and then the sun would splash through leaving its rays on the leaves and foliage
that adorned the ground.

5. After biking some ways to another city we decided it was time to
head back home. We found ourselves on this path amongst the trees
with no signs whatsoever. The bike path was so amazing. Trees leaning in
to shade us from the sun. Forest in every direction.
So much untouched earth. I couldn't
help but dream of getting lost out in the woods with a blanket
and the sound of birds singing me to sleep. It was truly beautiful.
The path took us all the way back to our city. If only I lived in a
place with such marvelous paths.

We biked over all about 25 miles today,
which is about 40 and a half kilometers for you Canadians.

When one strives to observe the beauty in every moment it
seems easily noticed. Things you might have taken for
granted during any other day suddenly come to life.

The earth has music for those who listen.
// William Shakespeare

Five beautiful things from today:

1. We made our way from Germany to France to discover new things
and visit a historical site of a man my Papa is writing a book about.
We drove along the Rhine river.
Rivers often strike my fancy due to their majestic beauty.
It seemed to me as if the water was glass,
floating its way to where it will surely join
to be a larger part of a body. Playing its part.
Carrying things atop the smooth surface to their destinations
and occasionally succumbing to waves and creases as it wanders.

2. The smells of nature today were extraordinary.
Freshly cut grass... I am a child again and it is summer.
The type of summer that only comes in the South--
the sweltering heat that engulfs July and all of August.
I dance in the sprinkler, only a swim
suit adorning my childlike figure.
Yellow with small flowers.
I am washing my grandfather's
car with my big brother. Spraying the hose
every which way while sporting goggles...
still, any excuse to wear goggles.

And the smell of roses congratulating me
as I bike to the top of the hill after much struggle.

3. Taking the alternative route back to Germany after
wandering in France. Green hills everywhere with little
towns nestled in their nooks and crannies. As if the hill
held the small houses in its arms and could come alive at
any moment.

4. Riding bikes with my Papa around our small German
town. Finding small paths thick with foliage. The trees
in a canopy over our heads with little blooms flowing in the
air that resemble the fairies of my childhood.
Oh, how my days were spent with them.
Building houses out of sticks, leaves, and moss
from the creeks, talking to
them, and laying in the grass waiting for them to appear.
Perhaps part of me still waits
...will always wait.

5. Picnicking at the end of the day with my Papa on
a park bench in the sun after a bike ride.
Baguettes, cheese, and my Monoprix herb vinaigrette
 picked up while in France.
Sun, hot, on my forehead.
Talking of travels, adventures, and memories
of what once was. What I remember,
what he remembers. Funny how perspectives play their part.

--------------

And now, as I look back on this beautiful day, I
thank my Heavenly Father for those He has put in my life.

May we find the beauty in every
 moment together, always.

A little challenge to my self.

Looking back, I used to write on this blog.
Write thoughts, letters, hopes, and dreams about my adventures.
I have realized now that I no longer write like I did here...
in this place that is my very own, not yet shared.

So I cooked up a tinsy challenge, in honor of my abdication
from my throne of words, to spur me on, if you will, to
greater and more beautiful things that may or may not
be product of the imagination.

Observe five beautiful things a day and
describe them using a medium of words.
For the next three or so days.

Challenge accepted.

(If I don't write each day then I will
write when I get a chance)

I witnessed magical fireworks at Hidelberg castle last night.
The fireworks lit up the sky as they glittered over the river.
My favorites are those that look like God is pouring out glitter into the sky.

This was my forth of July celebration on account of my absence yet another year.

It was perfect.
Packed in a German street with countless people.
After, we had ice cream with friends.
Good conversation and magical glitter were the highlights of my night here.
